There are so many benefits to having a morning routine, both physical and psychological, that will help to improve every aspect of your life. For many people, how you spend the morning will set the tone for how the rest of your day will go, both physically and mentally.

Setting a morning routine helps you to increase your productivity and feel more in control of the day. Not only that, but it will help to boost your energy levels, lower your stress. And help you to relax, and just put you in a better mood overall, which can help improve your personal and professional relationships.

Scientifically speaking, everyone should try and implement their own perfect version of a morning routine to help to set yourself up for success in the best way possible. If you are looking to tweak your morning routine, or start one for yourself, we have pulled together some tips on how you can start. Remember, it is never too late to become a morning person!

Starting morning routine

Set your alarm.

First and foremost, the key to starting a morning routine is to set your alarm for the same time every day, or around the same time. You want to get into the habit of waking up at an early enough time where you can relax and reset and ground yourself before you start your day. The weekdays can be extremely busy between work, school, exercise classes, or any extracurricular activities. Setting your alarm with enough time to get your morning routine done, get ready, and relax before a busy day will set you up for success.

Let in natural light.

Many people struggle with waking up early, including myself sometimes! A great way to make it easier for yourself to wake up is to let in natural light so that you are not only waking up from your alarm, but also from the sunshine coming into your room. If you have dark curtains, it is extremely easy to sleep in! Natural light is not only great for helping you to wake up but being exposed to natural light also helps your body to produce Vitamin D, help you to focus, and help enable you to be more productive overall. Plus, who does not love a sunshine-filled day?!

Wash your face with cold water.

While uncomfortable, washing your face with cold water right when you wake up will help to revive you and fully wake yourself up. For many people, it is common to wake up with some puffiness in your face and washing your face with cold water helps to increase blood flow and reduce some of this puffiness. It also has benefits for your skin in general, so it is a win-win!

Use an ice roller.

On the same note, if you have an ice roller, these are perfect to utilize first thing in the morning. Not only do they feel great, but they also help to increase blood flow and reduce puffiness. Ice rollers can also help to remove redness, promote tightening of your skin, and soothe any breakouts that you might have. These are also great for lymphatic fluid drainage, which has many health benefits!

Eat a nutritious breakfast.

You know what they say – breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Try your best to carve out some time in your morning to eat a nutritious breakfast so that you are full of healthy, whole foods to start your day. Eating first thing in the morning is also important for kickstarting your metabolism. Plus, breakfast is known for helping to boost brainpower and is a great way to give you energy.
