If you are a creative individual, you know first-hand how important it is to make sure that you have access to a space where you can truly sit back, focus, and get inspired. A creative space has many purposes and functions, whether you are in a professional or personal environment, and depending on what your ultimate goal is. Regardless of the purpose, it is always a great idea to try and incorporate a space in your home that is dedicated to your creative pursuits. If you have access to this space within your home, you can easily and conveniently work from home, focus on your writing or painting, choreograph a dance, record a song, and so much more. So, how do you design a creative space in your home?

Some tips on how you can create the perfect creative space:

Creative space in home

Choose a great location for your creative space.

First, make sure that you are picking the best location. During this process, consider all possible locations for your space. If you have a spare room, this could be a great option. If you do not have a full room available, consider a nook in the corner of another room, or even potentially somewhere in your basement! The location greatly depends not only on what you have available in your home, but what kind of space you will need and what you will be using it for. For example, if you are a dancer, you will need to account for more space than you would if you are looking to creatively write.

Ensure there is natural lighting.

Natural lighting is extremely important for your creative space, so, if possible, try to make sure that you are able to let natural light pour into the room. Having good lighting is essential for being as creative as possible. If you are working in a dark room, or a room with insufficient lighting, it can easily lead to fatigue, or a strain on your eyes which can ultimately lead to a chronic headache.

Keep things organized in your creative space.

If you are not in an organized space, it will be very difficult for you to concentrate. Try to keep the area around you as organized as possible so that your creative process can go as smooth as possible. Everyone has a different preference on organization and the best storage system, so find what works best for you. Whether you feel more organized with shelving, cabinets, or trays, making sure there is a place for everything in the room will greatly help you!

Limit any and all distractions.

On top of keeping the area organized, try to limit any and all distractions that may disrupt the flow of your creativity. If possible, make sure your space is in an area of your home that will not be too noisy and will not have too many distractions. If you live with others, especially children, establish boundaries in terms of others having access to the space while you are working in it. You want to be as focused as possible when you are in this space!

Purchase the right furniture in your creative space.

Comfort is also key to creativity – you do not want to be sitting in an uncomfortable chair or straining any of your muscles while you are trying to focus on the task at hand. Make sure that you are investing in good furniture that will be comfortable and also accommodate all the materials that you will need in a way that will be easy to access.

Focus on the ambiance.

Lastly, set the mood! Surround yourself with things that will motivate and inspire you – whether that is artwork on the walls, some framed inspirational quotes throughout the room, or lighting some candles to freshen up the scent in the area. Think about what motivates you to be your best and create a space that helps you to achieve that.
