Moving into a new home is an exciting venture. If you’ve just closed on your new home, there’s most likely lots of planning and packing in your future. However, before you settle into your new space, there are a few things you’ll want to consider doing. Here are a few of the things to do before moving into a new home.

Switch Your Mailing Address

Switching your mailing address is a simple task most people forget about until they’re wondering why they haven’t received any mail recently. From bills to monthly subscriptions, you’ll certainly want your mail to come on time and to the right location.

Transfer Utilities

Nothing is a bigger drag after a long day of moving than realizing you forgot to transfer over the utilities. Notify your utility company as soon as possible so that your water and electricity are ready to go when you are.

Make Renovations

If you have plans to refinish the cabinets in your new place or update the flooring, do so before you move. Once you have the keys to the house, plan for a couple of days or even a week of renovations. After taking the time to move all your belongings into your house, you won’t want to move them again to renovate. Avoid the hassle by making any changes before you move your belongings in.

Schedule a Deep-Clean

The best kind of home to move into is a clean one. As you move more furniture in, it’ll be harder to deep-clean all the nooks and crannies. Schedule a deep-clean to get rid of any old dirt left behind from the previous owner or from renovations you completed before moving in.

Purge You Possessions

One of the most helpful things to do before moving into a new home is to lessen your load. Go through your belongings and plan to donate or throw away unnecessary items. Dragging unused items to your new place will only require more time for packing and moving. Plus, they’ll take up unnecessary space in your new house.
